The building complex known as Lahden Hakatornit spans two districts. The 10-story buildings on Paasikivenkatu belong to the Kartano area, while the 4-story buildings on Mukkulankatu are situated in Kivimaa. Hakatornit consists of a total of 13 buildings, seven on Paasikivenkatu and six on Mukkulankatu. The buildings were constructed between 1952 and 1960 and underwent major renovations in the early 2000s. The buildings offer several hundred apartments catering to various life situations and needs.

These buildings have witnessed the lives of many tenants from Lahti and, with a large number of apartments, enable plenty of community activities that enhance tenant satisfaction. The rent includes access to a laundry room with a drying area. Additionally, Paasikivenkatu 10 features a free carpet washing facility for tenants.

Kartano and Kivimaa as residential areas

Most of the buildings in the area are apartment buildings. The Kartano district is named after Fellman’s Manor, which has a long history in the area. Today, the manor, built in the 1800s, houses the Lahti Historical Museum. The Kartano district is within walking distance of downtown services. The Ankkuri Rantapuisto beach is a 30-minute walk or a 10-minute bike ride away.

There are good sports facilities nearby, ranging from the Salpausselkä ski jumps to the swimming pool and the sports and fair hall. Annual children’s events are held at the base of the ski jumps. If you enjoy skiing, the Finlandia ski race starts right nearby. If skiing isn’t your thing, you can always join the cheering squads.

There are several stores nearby, good public transport connections, and convenient cycling routes in all directions. Educational institutions in the Kartano area include Salpausselkä Upper Secondary School, Salpaus Further Education College, Lahti Lyceum, and Lahti University of Applied Sciences. In Kivimaa, you can study at Kivimaa School. The local swimming hall is Kivimaa Swimming Hall. Kivimaa is closer to Lahti Harbor than Kartano.

Nature trails serve both districts, starting near the Salpausselkä ski jumps. The Vesijärvi passenger harbor is a hub of activity, especially in the summer. From there, you can embark on day cruises on Vesijärvi or Päijänne. Enonsaari on Vesijärvi offers swimming, grilling, and even overnight stays. The passenger harbor also has connections to Heinola and Jyväskylä.
