Student housing support changes in August – What it means for M2-Kodit residents
Starting August 2025, most students will move from the general housing allowance to the housing supplement included in study grants. What does this change mean for you if you are looking for a student rental or already live in an M2-Kodit apartment?
Housing supplement replaces general housing allowance
From August 1, 2025, the housing supplement for study grants will be granted for study months to students eligible for study grants. General housing allowance will no longer be provided, unless the student lives with their own or their spouse’s child.
The housing supplement is a personal benefit and cannot be paid directly to the landlord. This means that paying rent will remain the student’s responsibility.
Already living in an M2-Kodit apartment? Here’s how the change affects you
If you currently receive general housing allowance as a supported student, Kela will automatically review your support and notify you about the transition to the housing supplement. You do not need to inform M2-Kodit about this change.

Looking for a new student apartment?
M2-Kodit offers rental homes suitable for students across Finland. In most cases, no security deposit is required at M2-Kodit. The exception is if you have poor credit, in which case a deposit of 1 to 3 months’ rent may be requested. Internet is also included in the rent.
Pets are welcome in nearly all homes, except for the allergy-friendly building in Hyvinkää.
One advantage of moving into an M2-Kodit apartment is that you do not have to move out after your studies end. M2-Kodit is a good choice for students who value smooth everyday living, continuity, and a reliable landlord.
